Kraft Heinz announced Tuesday that it is discontinuing the Lunchables meals created for US schools due to low demand and sales.

It noted that sales of the school-designed food boxes comprised less than 1% of overall Lunchables sales.

Launched in the 2023-2024 academic year, the meals—one with pizza and another with turkey cheese and crackers—were designed to meet school lunch program guidelines with reduced fat and sodium.

However, nutritionists and advocacy groups criticized the launch, with the Center for Science in the Public Interest questioning its impact on school nutrition.

In April, Consumer Reports found these school-approved Lunchables had more sodium and lead than store versions, prompting a petition to ban them from schools.
