McDonald’s is joining the fast-food chain trend of adding more chicken to the menu. It is introducing a Chicken Big Mac in the US, replacing the classic beef patties with two crispy, tempura-battered chicken patties.
Chicken consumption in America has grown while beef orders have declined over the last 60 years, according to the US Department of Agriculture.
The trend was acknowledged by McDonald’s US president, who said that the company now sells more chicken than beef.
Chains like Chick-fil-A, which focuses on chicken, have become super successful. It’s now the third-largest fast-food chain in the US by sales.
Riding the wave, burger places like McDonald’s, Shake Shack, and other chains like Popeyes are expanding their chicken offerings.
The Chicken Big Mac will be available for a limited time and won’t require new equipment since it uses the same chicken as McNuggets.
