Amazon reported a 33% jump in customer service impersonation scams on social media between December 2024 and February 2025

Scammers are posing as hotline support to people facing flight cancellations, lost luggage or even undelivered Amazon packages.

The e-commerce giant reported a 33% jump in customer service impersonation scams on social media between December 2024 and February 2025.

A primary tactic used by these scammers is posting fake support numbers online or hijacking complaint conversations with a brand on social media.

Victims have lost hundreds of dollars by calling these bogus numbers and unknowingly handing over credit card details or downloading malware.

Fraudsters are also gaming Google search results by creating fake hotlines for major brands, including Delta Air Lines, Cash App, and DTE Energy.

According to experts, being cautious of any customer service representative asking for upfront payments would be helpful. They also advise that customers visit the company’s official website or apps to get helpline numbers.
