A woman was shot and killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer in Minneapolis on Wednesday during a major crackdown.

Federal officials say the officer acted in self-defense, but the city’s mayor called it reckless and unnecessary.

The victim, 37-year-old Renee Nicole Macklin Good, was shot in her SUV in a snowy neighborhood south of downtown.

Videos show officers approaching her car before it moved forward, and shots were fired. Afterward, the SUV hit parked vehicles. Hundreds of people gathered for a vigil, mourning her death and protesting the federal operation.

Mayor Jacob Frey said the crackdown is causing fear and breaking up families. State and federal authorities are now investigating the shooting as the city reels from the incident.
