Two massive endangered beluga whales were safely transported from an aquarium in the embattled Ukrainian city of Kharkiv to Europe’s largest aquarium in Valencia, Spain, yesterday.

The white whales, a 15-year-old male, Plombir, and a 14-year-old female, Miranda, were evacuated after the Russian bombardments hit Kharkiv’s power grid, making it difficult to keep the aquarium water cold and maintain their diet.

Specialists from several international institutions assisted in the 36-hour, 1,900-mile journey despite the significant logistical and health challenges.
