The suspected killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, who evaded police for the past week, was arrested at a Pennsylvania McDonald’s and arraigned yesterday.
An employee recognized the man from media reports and called the cops.
Online court documents reveal Mangione has been charged with murder in Manhattan, according to the New York Times. Additionally, he is also charged with forgery and three gun charges.
The 26-year-old Luigi Mangione is an Ivy League computer science graduate.
He is related to a prominent Maryland real estate and healthcare business family. The former valedictorian and University of Pennsylvania graduate was found in possession of a 3D-printed pistol, silencer, a fake ID, passport, thousands of dollars in cash, and a handwritten manifesto.
A law enforcement official told the Associated Press that Mangione’s writings called UnitedHealthcare parasites and included an apology for the trauma caused. He also stated that he acted alone.
Mangione had been evading capture since he shot 50-year-old Thompson early morning last week in Manhattan. He was on his way to a UHC investor conference.
While his motivations remain under scrutiny, the killing has spurred heightened security concerns within the corporate world.
