Benny Gantz, a centrist member of Israel’s three-man war cabinet, announced his resignation on Sunday, citing irreconcilable differences with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s approach towards the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Gantz previously stated he would exit the government by June 8 if Netanyahu failed to devise a new plan for postwar Gaza, emphasizing hostage return over politics.

Last month, Gantz even proposed a bill to dissolve the parliament, calling for early elections to establish a more cohesive leadership.

Gantz, a former military chief, joined the government in a show of unity after the October 7 Hamas attack.
