US officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, plan to meet Russian officials in Saudi Arabia today and discuss ending the war in Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Europe have not been invited to the talks. Zelensky has said that he would not accept any peace deal if Kyiv were not involved while negotiating a deal.
Amid European concerns that the US is moving ahead on negotiations with Russia without involving the continent, Europe held talks in Paris Monday.
The meeting between senior American and Russian officials will also discuss improving their ties.
