Taiwan’s new TV series, Zero Day, is stirring debate with its depiction of a potential Chinese invasion and the chaos after it.

The trailer for the 10-part series scheduled to air in 2025 shows scenes of military blockades, panicked cash withdrawals, foreign evacuations, prison riots, and more. It underscores the rising tensions between Taiwan and China, with the latter viewing the island as its own territory.

Despite receiving support from Taiwan’s Presidential Office, the military, and funding from the Ministry of Culture, the series faces censorship from China and criticism for inciting fear.

Inspired by the increased threats following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the show has been praised for raising awareness but criticized for potentially exaggerating the threat and causing unnecessary panic.
