A destructive 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Mandalay, Myanmar’s second-largest city, on Friday. Neighboring Thailand also felt the tremors where an under-construction skyscraper collapsed, killing nine people; over 101 were either trapped underneath or missing.
The death toll has risen to over 1,000 people, according to state news agencies.
Myanmar’s MRTV broadcaster reports that 2,376 people are injured, and over 30 are still missing.
As disaster management teams continue rescue efforts, the country’s military leader requested international aid.
