Amazon may soon enter the telecom field as it is in talks with major wireless carriers like Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T and Dish Network to provide free wireless services to Prime members, per a Bloomberg report.
Amazon aims to operate as a reseller or a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) with pricing control.
The news of a new major player hit the stock of big mobile carriers—T-Mobile shares fell 7%, and AT&T and Verizon saw a decline of more than 3% Friday.
Analysts suggest Amazon’s entry could disrupt the telecom industry, potentially lowering prices.
However, shares of Dish climbed 16%.
Amazon and all major players have denied any plans or involvement.
