At least one person is dead after a large tornado hit hard in parts of New Orleans on Tuesday night causing damage and destruction in the city. The death happened in hard-hit Arabi in St. Bernard Parish.
Leaving massive destruction on its way, the tornado injured more than two dozen, knocked out power, and prompted a search and rescue of residents, said local authorities.
The tornado hit both the Lower Ninth Ward in New Orleans and St. Bernard Parish, communities devastated by Hurricane Katrina.
Arabi and the Lower Ninth Ward reported heavy destruction. The several injured were taken to hospital, confirmed St. Bernard Parish, Sheriff Jimmy Pohlmann.
The tornado left a trail of damage in parts of New Orleans and neighboring areas, and another tornado was confirmed north of Lake Pontchartrain. Search and rescue efforts are underway.
