Falling back on their previous decision, Disney's CEO Bob Chapek voiced opposition to Florida's controversial “Don't Say Gay” bill.
Chapek told shareholders at Disney’s annual shareholders’ meeting that the firm will not support similar legislation across the country. He added that he looks forward to meeting with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, along with Disney employees, to discuss the bill.
The bill is deemed controversial as it prohibits the discussion of sexual orientation amongst children in schools. Chapek confirmed Disney signed the Human Rights Campaign's statement and offered $5 million to the HRC and other organizations working to support LGBTQ+ rights.
According to reports, Investors from both ends spoke out against the "Don't Say Gay" bill during the Disney shareholder meeting conducted virtually.
