Epic Games, the gaming firm behind the hit online battle-royale game Fortnite, has purchased the independent-music-centric streaming service Bandcamp. Although Epic is yet to release added information on the details of the deal, a spokesperson went on record to say, “Epic and Bandcamp share a mission of building the most artist-friendly platform that enables creators to keep the majority of their hard-earned money.” Bandcamp, a minor player compared to music streaming colossus Spotify, boasts of an artist-first revenue model that directs 82% of every sale towards the creator. The purchase decision by Epic hints at the company’s plans to expand outside the gaming industry and foray into the digital media space.
