The January 6 House select committee investigating the Capitol riots in a court filing on Wednesday claimed that former President Donald J. Trump engaged in a ‘criminal conspiracy’ to disrupt the 2020 presidential election. The latest development suggests a push towards compelling Trump’s former advisor John Eastman to divulge information in emails sent between the two parties. If revealed, the information was believed to be detrimental in convincing then-Vice President Mike Pence to stall Congress’ certification of Electoral College votes. A spokesperson from the Trump camp has refused to comment on the allegations.
