Former President Barack and Michelle Obama are leaving Spotify following a clash between the first family’s Higher Ground Production and the Swedish audio streaming service over their 3-year partnership.
Obama’s production house won’t be signing a new deal for their upcoming shows with Spotify. The production company is, instead, in talks with alternate platforms like Amazon’s Audible and iHeartMedia Inc.
The Obamas are seeking a deal to produce shows and release them on multiple platforms at the same time.
Higher Ground on Spotify
The Obamas’ production company signed a deal with Spotify in 2019, starting with “The Michelle Obama Podcast”, which became one of Spotify's five most popular podcasts in 2020.
Higher Ground is actively looking for a deal with other audio streaming services and is expected to land one in a few weeks.
