Some U.S. states, like Delaware and New Jersey, are relaxing mask mandates in schools in the hopes of returning to ‘normalcy.’ The Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advised against traveling to six countries. Here’s what you need to know:
U.S.
On Monday, Governor of California, Gavin Newsom, said people vaccinated against COVID-19 do not need to wear masks indoors.
However, masks will continue to be mandatory for unvaccinated people, school children, and everyone visiting high-risk areas like public transit and nursing homes, regardless of vaccination status, state officials said.
The Governors of Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, and Oregon health departments have set timelines to end the mask mandate in schools.
The CDC warns people to avoid travel to six countries, including Japan, Cuba, Armenia, Oman, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, due to the rise in COVID-19 cases.
WHO
The World Health Organization survey, on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, reports disruptions in basic health services in over 90% of the countries.
Germany
Several German states plan to lift COVID-19 restrictions despite the rapid growth of infections. With 95, 267 new cases, the country reported a 22% increase compared to the same day last week. However, the seven-day hospitalization rate has decreased.
U.K.
According to official data, the U.K. reported 57, 623 new COVID-19 cases in 24 hours and 45 COVID-19-related deaths within 28 days of testing positive.
