US officials are gearing up for the possibility of more migrants attempting to cross the U.S-Mexico border without authorization per day, as the Biden administration plans to lift a COVID-era order that is blocking most asylum seekers.

Such a move could smash last year's record levels.

The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is getting ready for the arrival of roughly 18,000 migrants every day in the next few weeks. Not just that,  the department is also preparing for a smaller increase to 12,000 migrants, which is at par with current levels.
