Top Gun: Maverick, Tom Cruise’s long-awaited sequel to the 1986 film, ruled the Memorial Day weekend box office.
The movie collected $124 million between Friday and Sunday domestically and over $248 million at the global box office.
Becoming Cruise’s first $100 million opening, it is also the highest-grossing debut of his 40-year career.
The actor’s previous biggest opening weekend was Steven Spielberg’s 'War of the Worlds' which grossed over $64 million in 2005.
Maverick is expected to collect $151 million through Monday.
