Vice President and former presidential candidate Kamala Harris presided over the session in which Congress formally certified President-elect Donald Trump’s re-election yesterday.
The event, which took place four years to the day after a mob of Trump’s supporters disrupted the certification of Joe Biden’s win in 2021, was held under increased security.
Trump has said that he may pardon some of the rioters charged in the January 6, 2021, storming of the Capitol after his inauguration. Trump also faces pending election interference charges in Georgia, while federal prosecutors dropped similar cases post-election.
