The USS Iwo Jima factored prominently in Saturday’s military raid in Venezuela
The Senate narrowly advanced a bipartisan resolution 52-47 that would block President Donald Trump from further military action against Venezuela without Congress’s approval.
The largely symbolic measure comes after a US operation in Venezuela killed several and captured the country’s president, Nicolas Maduro, last week.
The measure still needs a final Senate vote and approval from the House, where it faces hurdles and a likely presidential veto.
Five Republicans joined all Democrats to pass the bill.
