President Donald Trump celebrated a major legislative victory after the House passed his “one big, beautiful bill” yesterday, marking a big win of his second term.

The multi-trillion-dollar package, already approved by the Senate, makes Trump’s 2017 tax cuts permanent, introduces new tax breaks and funds his administration’s immigration enforcement agenda. The legislation also includes deep cuts to healthcare and food assistance programs and eliminates dozens of green energy incentives.

The final vote was 218–214, with two Republicans joining all Democrats in opposition.

The bill’s path was rocky. GOP leaders worked overnight to win over skeptical Republicans, many of whom had opposed the Senate’s steep Medicaid cuts and changes.

Speaker Mike Johnson credited President Trump’s direct engagement with holdouts and last-minute changes for the turnaround.

Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries delivered a record-breaking 8-hour speech criticizing cuts to social programs. Despite his effort, the bill moved forward.

The Congressional Budget Office estimates the law will raise deficits by $3.4 trillion and leave millions uninsured. Trump will sign the bill Friday at a Fourth of July event, marking a major policy milestone amid deep political division.
