Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker’s misogynistic and anti-pride views expressed during a recent college commencement speech “are not those of the NFL as an organization,” said its senior VP Jonathan Beane on Thursday.

The league is distancing itself from Butker’s speech and said it is committed to inclusion.

What did he say?
Speaking to a student audience consisting of women and men, Butker suggested women find more fulfillment in marriage and motherhood over careers.

He also criticized gender ideologies, gay pride and President Joe Biden’s abortion stance during his speech at the deeply Catholic Benedictine College in Kansas.

Butker’s comments have ignited strong reactions on social media, with many criticizing his views on women’s roles and his use of Taylor Swift’s lyrics.

The Chiefs have not commented on the matter, but the controversy presents an issue for both the team and the NFL, especially given their recent efforts to attract more female fans.
