Florida International University (FIU) is renaming its football stadium “Pitbull Stadium” after the namesake Latin music superstar, also known as Armando Christian Perez, entered a $6 million sponsorship deal with the college.
The move makes FIU the first university to name a college athletics building after a musician.
Pitbull will pay $1.2 million per year for five years, with an option to extend the agreement for another five years. The rapper will also create an anthem for FIU’s athletic events, market the school on social media, and assist with athletic fundraising, according to university documents.
Notably, Pitbull can use the 20,000-seater stadium 10 times a year without paying base rental fees, and his vodka brand, Voli 305, will be the preferred brand sold there.
The 43-year-old singer is also a minority owner of the NASCAR team Trackhouse Racing since 2021. He mentioned on Tuesday that other colleges might copy FIU’s brilliant marketing. This could be possible considering the NCAA recently approved allowing universities to sell ads on football fields during regular season games.
