Several news outlets reported that Apple flew 600 tons of iPhones—around 1.5 million devices—from India to the US in March before President Donald Trump’s reciprocal tariffs took effect, per Reuters.

Reports also indicate that the tech giant ramped up production by 20% in its India plant by adding staff and working on Sundays. It also lobbied with customs to speed up shipment clearance.

One-fifth of iPhones imported to the US come from India.

Other companies, including Dell, Microsoft and Lenovo, also rushed to send high-end products priced over $3,000 before Trump’s tariffs could raise costs. HP initially resisted but quickly changed course, increasing shipments and planning more production in Mexico.

Meanwhile, Samsung is cutting smartphone component orders for mid-2025, and some PC makers like Lenovo and Acer are shifting focus to non-US markets.
