The DOJ filing stems from a judge’s August ruling that Google illegally maintained a search engine monopoly|Daniel Cukier|CC BY-ND 2.0
The Justice Department said in a filing that Google must sell its Chrome browser to reduce its dominance in search, reiterating a proposal by the previous administration after a federal judge ruled that Google had illegally maintained a monopoly.
However, the DOJ dropped its demand for Google to divest AI investments, instead requiring transparency in future AI deals.
Google called the DOJ’s plan “overbroad” and proposed alternative remedies.
Judge Amit Mehta will hear both sides and decide an outcome in April.
