Norwegian robotics startup 1X plans to test its humanoid robot, Neo Gamma, in “a few hundred to a few thousand” homes by late 2025, according to CEO Bernt Bornich.
Early adopters will help train the robot, which can vacuum, water plants and navigate rooms—though it’s still far from fully autonomous. Neo Gamma will rely on human teleoperators to help guide its movements.
The in-home tests will help 1X gather crucial data on how the robot functions in real-life settings. But it isn’t alone.
Despite backing from OpenAI, 1X faces competition from US-based rival Figure, set to begin its home tests of humanoid robots this year. The company reportedly seeks to raise $1.5 billion at a jaw-dropping $40 billion valuation.
The race to get humanoid robots into homes is heating up.
