President Donald Trump announces a $100 billion new investment by TSMC in US chips manufacturing|@WhiteHouse|X

President Donald Trump announced Monday that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), the world’s leading AI chip manufacturer, plans to invest $100 billion in US factories over the next four years.

The investment adds to the $65 billion TSMC has already committed. It is expected to create thousands of jobs, said CEO CC Wei, who was present at the announcement.

However, the TSMC expansion still requires approval from Taiwan’s government.

The company’s semiconductor chips are already widely used by Nvidia and Apple.

It previously secured $6.6 billion in US grants for its three Phoenix plants, and its first Arizona facility began production last year.

Trump’s administration has taken a tough stance on semiconductor tariffs, pressuring companies to manufacture in the US. Unlike former President Joe Biden’s subsidy-driven approach via the 2022 CHIPS Act, President Trump prefers tariffs to incentivize domestic production.

Companies like Microsoft, Apple, OpenAI, SoftBank and Oracle have pledged hundreds of billions toward expanding AI infrastructure in the US.

Meanwhile, talks continue about TSMC potentially taking a controlling stake in Intel’s factories to bolster US chipmaking.
