The Trump administration announced it is ending New York City’s congestion pricing program, which was implemented last month.
In a letter to Hochul on Wednesday, the Department of Transportation said it was terminating its agreement with the state.
The program charges vehicles entering busy areas of Manhattan and uses the collected tolls to upgrade its aging transit systems.
Congestion pricing helped curb traffic but also received heavy criticism from business owners and drivers impacted by the tolling initiative.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy called congestion pricing “backwards and unfair.”
