The capital of the Czech Republic, Prague, is banning organized nighttime pub crawls starting in November to tackle problems caused by rowdy, drunk tourists.
A popular destination for bachelor and bachelorette parties, the European city earned nearly $5 billion in 2019 through tourism.
Last year, it welcomed over 7 million visitors, but these bar crawls also caused mayhem as drunken people litter the historic district. Prague has tried different solutions, like having a “night mayor” to manage nightlife, but nothing has worked.
Now, the police will enforce the ban between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., and pub crawl organizers who break the rules could be fined up to $4,300.
Prague wants to promote cultural tourism and attract people who will stay longer and appreciate its history and culture.
