A powerful storm devastated Southern and Eastern US states, killing at least nine people this weekend. Kentucky suffered the most, with eight fatalities due to strong winds, flash floods and tornadoes.
All 120 counties in Kentucky were affected, receiving over 6 inches of rain in some areas. Water levels reached historic highs, and roads were closed across the state. Governor Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency while FEMA and National Guard units helped with recovery.
Power outages left thousands without electricity in Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, Georgia, and other states. Emergency crews rescued over 1,000 people in under 24 hours. The storm disrupted travel, canceling 100 flights and delaying hundreds more at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina.
More than 10 million people face winter storm warnings as the storm moves east, with snowfall expected in northern New England.
