ChatGPT maker OpenAI had 2 million paying enterprise users in September

ChatGPT maker OpenAI now has 400 million active monthly users, up from 300 million in December, COO Brad Lightcap told CNBC. The company has yet to reveal how many of them are paid customers.

At the business end, OpenAI had 2 million paying enterprise users in September. Companies like Uber, Morgan Stanley, Moderna and T-Mobile are among them.

The reveal reflects growth in the American AI startup, despite China’s DeepSeek stunning Wall Street and Big Tech with its low-cost AI bot last month.

However, OpenAI faces legal troubles over its nonprofit status. Co-founder Elon Musk, who left the company in 2019, sued CEO Sam Altman’s plan to turn it into a for-profit firm.
