Robbie Coltrane, Harry Potter’s Hagrid, dies at 72

Actor Robbie Coltrane, who played the gentle half-giant Hagrid in the Harry Potter movies, died yesterday. He was 72.

His other memorable roles in a more than four-decade-long career include the 1990s series ‘Cracker’, in which he played a detective and won the best actor at the British Academy Television Awards three years running. He also played a Russian crime boss in the James Bond thrillers ‘Golden Eye’ and ‘The World is Not Enough’.
