America’s largest bank, JPMorgan Chase, sent out an internal memo to employees mandating hybrid workers to return to office five days a week starting in March.
Backed by CEO Jamie Dimon, the policy effectively ends the remote work model introduced during the pandemic shutdowns.
Workers will receive at least 30 days’ notice before transitioning to full-time office schedules. Over 50% of JPMorgan’s 300,000 employees have already returned to office.
Staff complaints surged after the memo, with 300+ comments posted within the first hour before the company’s discussion page was locked. Employees noted concerns about commuting costs, childcare and mental health.
Not just JPMorgan
Financial giants like Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley also want workers to return to in-person work five days a week, claiming it increases productivity and collaboration.
Companies like Amazon, Starbucks, Walmart and AT&T are also mandating office returns. However, some have faced resistance due to logistical and employee concerns.
