President Donald Trump suggested that the US acquire Ukraine’s power plants, including nuclear facilities, calling it the “best protection” for the infrastructure.

In a call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump discussed refurbishing the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, which is in Russian-occupied territory.

The conversation came a day after the US President spoke with Russia’s Vladimir Putin and agreed to a partial 30-day ceasefire, though both sides blamed each other for recent overnight attacks.

Zelensky welcomed potential American investment but emphasized the need for stronger security guarantees.

Trump hasn’t committed to any security guarantees for Ukraine but is pushing for US stakes in the country’s energy and rare-earth minerals worth hundreds of billions of dollars.
