Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth disclosed operational details, including targets and weaponry|US Secretary of Defense

The Trump administration accidentally added the Editor-in-Chief of The Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg, to a Signal group chat where they were discussing military operations on Houthi rebels in Yemen two hours before the US airstrike.

According to Goldberg, who wrote about it in the magazine, the chat included Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Vice President JD Vance.

Hegseth disclosed operational details, including targets and weaponry. The chat also revealed internal debates, with Vice President Vance questioning the timing and economic impact of the strike.

Officials called the leak a serious security breach, potentially violating the Espionage Act. Former national security officials warned that using personal cellphones in the chat increased the risk of foreign hacking.

The National Security Council is investigating how the journalist’s number was added to the chat.
