US Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy reported that 41% of parents experience severe stress daily
Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy issued a warning on Wednesday that parenting is increasingly stressful and impacting mental health.
According to the advisory, 41% of parents experience severe stress daily, 65% feel lonely, and 48% find their stress overwhelming compared to other adults.
Murthy attributes the strain to rising childcare costs, longer work hours, and modern parenting challenges involving children’s exposure to social media and school shootings.
He pointed out that there is an increase in youth mental health crisis and an “epidemic of loneliness” that impacts youngsters and their parents.
He called for policy change and community programs to better support parents, including expanded paid leave and workplace training.
Murthy also urges parents to build strong support networks to help manage these pressures.
