Rap rock band Limp Bizkit and its frontman Fred Durst filed a $200 million lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG) this week for unpaid royalties.
The band and Durst allege UMG’s policy is “deliberately designed” to conceal royalties from artists. The lawyers claim it is possible that hundreds of other musicians also face a similar fate with the corporation.
The lawsuit says that despite selling millions of copies and continuing to stream millions per month on Spotify, UMG has not paid the band a single cent in royalties.
The group is seeking alleged unpaid royalties and a ruling declaring its UMG contract void and returning music copyrights to the band.
