President Joe Biden signed an executive order Tuesday, directing federal agencies to collectively take 50 actions aimed at reducing the cost of child and elderly care and making it more accessible to Americans.
Biden assured that the order “doesn’t require any new spending” and is to “provide more peace of mind for families and dignity for care workers.”
White House officials say the executive order plans to:
- Lower costs for families in the Child Care & Development Block Grant program
- Provide better home-based care for military veterans
- Raise pay and benefits given by the Department of Health and Human Services for teachers and staff in the Head Start program
