Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, says several areas in Minnesota are being investigated|@KristiNoem|X

Federal agents operating under Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem are conducting investigations in several areas in Minnesota for possible child care and other fraud within state-run programs.

Republican officials, including Assistant US Attorney Joe Thompson, suggest that as much as $9 billion in federal funds may have been misappropriated across 14 state programs since 2018. However, specific evidence for the mentioned figure remains disputed.

The FBI and DHS agents’ presence has escalated tensions between President Donald Trump and Democratic Governor Tim Walz.

Other Democrats, including Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Rep. Ilhan Omar, have also criticized Trump. They say the administration is targeting the state’s Somali community.

Federal investigations in Minnesota ramped up following a viral video from a MAGA-aligned YouTuber, Nick Shirley, who alleged corruption in childcare services. It drew comments from Vice President JD Vance and FBI Director Kash Patel.
