The resolution now heads to the House, where leaders plan a vote this week
The Senate narrowly passed a Republican-backed budget blueprint early Saturday with a 51-48 vote, moving the GOP’s agenda forward.
Only two Republican senators, Rand Paul and Susan Collins, voted no, while all Democrats opposed it.
The resolution now heads to the House, where leaders plan a vote this week. If approved, the plan would extend Trump’s 2017 tax cuts—worth over $5 trillion—and add another $1.5 trillion in new tax breaks, including eliminating taxes on tips.
It would also lift the US debt ceiling by $5 trillion to avoid default and allocate $521 billion in new spending, with $175 billion for border security and $150 billion for defense.
The final bill will require near-unanimous GOP support. Democrats warned the plan could jeopardize Medicare and Medicaid funding.
