Move over Barbiecore platforms, Clowncore boots are in. These larger-than-life-size shoes are gracing the runways at the Paris Fashion Week that started yesterday, and the trend is going viral on TikTok.
Fashion brands like MSCHF, Bottega Veneta, Balenciaga and Marni are churning out oversized, cartoonish-looking shoes that are making waves in fashion.
Even celebrities adopted them earlier this year. Doja Cat, Lil Nas X, Iggy Azalea and Janelle Monae were seen wearing MSCHF’s “big red boot.”
Marni’s “big foot 2.0” tennis shoe is set to make its fashion week debut.
Fashion comes in cycles
Although big, ugly, clownish footwear is part of the clowncore fashion movement trending this year, it is not new.
Remember Uggs, Crocs and Birkenstock? Some of these companies are making billions in yearly revenue. Birkenstock is going public in October with an estimated valuation of $8 billion. Crocs reported $1 billion in quarterly revenue in July.
