The judge overseeing the case against Hunter Biden refused to accept the deal and said she needs more time to review it|Center for Strategic & International Studies|CC-BY-3.0
Hunter Biden faced a setback Wednesday when a federal judge halted the approval of his proposed plea deal with prosecutors.
During a three-hour hearing, Judge Maryellen Noreika expressed the need for more time to review the proposed deal and raised questions about its details.
During the hearing
Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges. Prosecutors alleged he failed to pay taxes on over $1.5 million in income during 2017 and 2018.
Additionally, in a separate case, he did not enter a plea for unlawfully owning a firearm.
Both parties will now have to revise the agreement to address the judge’s concerns.
The deal had drawn criticism from former President Donald Trump and his allies, alleging it favored President Joe Biden’s son.
