For over two decades, Justice Clarence Thomas received numerous undisclosed gifts from the wealthy and powerful friends he made after joining an elite club, the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, finds The New York Times.
The association website lists Justice Thomas as a board member. He joined it months after becoming a member of the U.S. Supreme Court in 1991.
Ever since joining the elite club, he has received gifts in the form of luxury vacations, VIP tickets to sporting events and invitations to parties. A prominent friend he made there was former Berkshire Hathaway executive David Sokol.
Sokol and his family hosted the Thomases at their sprawling Montana ranch and Florida waterfront mansion in 2015.
The Times report comes just two months after ProPublica published an expose about Justice Thomas taking several luxury trips funded by billionaire Republican donor Harlan Crow—one of which cost more than $500,000.
The Supreme Court Justice largely stopped disclosing personal flights after a 2004 report by The Los Angeles Times pointed out his gifts and travel details.
