The House Committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack is considering recommending the Department of Justice (DOJ) to press three criminal charges against former president Donald Trump, according to the Associated Press.
If considered, the criminal charges against Trump are: insurrection, obstructing an official proceeding, and conspiracy to defraud the United States.
Recommending these charges would add pressure on the DOJ when investigating Trump’s actions in the Capitol riots.
The eight-chapter final report from the Jan. 6 committee is expected to be released next Wednesday. The nine-member committee will wrap up its year-and-a-half-long inquiry on Monday.
