Disney Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World zipped across US theaters, bringing in $88.5 million in ticket sales over the Presidents Day weekend, according to Comscore.
Currently No.1 at the box office, the superhero film is projected to bring in $192.4 million worldwide by the end of today.
It is the 35th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and stars Anthony Mackie as the Cap and Harrison Ford as Red Hulk.
The MCU film is reportedly the first blockbuster of 2025. It arrives as Hollywood is rebounding, with this year’s box office already up 22% from 2024. Last year, writers’ and actors’ strikes disrupted theatre releases.
Analysts expect 2025 ticket sales to reach $9.3 billion to $9.7 billion. Upcoming Disney and Marvel Studio releases like Snow White (March), Thunderbolts (May) and The Fantastic Four: First Steps (July) could further boost numbers.
