The Senate approved Kash Patel as the new director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Thursday. The decision came after a closely contested vote, with the Chamber approving Patel by a 51-49 margin.
A former federal prosecutor and Trump loyalist, he has been a vocal critic of the FBI. His nomination and subsequent approval to head the nation’s premier federal law came despite doubts from Democrats about his qualifications.
Democrats were unanimous in their opposition and were joined by two Republicans in voting against Patel.
Democrats are concerned that he will pursue political vendettas and could seek retribution against Trump’s enemies.
After his confirmation, Patel has vowed to “rebuild” the bureau.
