A powerful winter storm hit Northern California this past weekend, bringing the first official tornado warning for San Francisco, according to weather experts.
The warning came less than two weeks after officials issued a tsunami warning.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued the alert Saturday morning based on radar rotation, though no tornado was confirmed. Later in the day, a tornado did hit, but in Scotts Valley in Santa Cruz County.
Damage reports were filed, and a survey crew was sent to investigate.
While rare, tornadoes have occurred in the Bay Area, with a weak one reported in 2005.
The storm caused flooding, damaging winds and high surf. Northern California also faced significant snow, with up to 3 feet expected in the Sierra, creating dangerous travel conditions and potential damage.
